A few weeks back Paul Calver was sent up to Saltcoats on the west coast of Scotland to meet one of my cycling heroes, Graeme Obree.
“Graeme Obree is famous for making and breaking records, world records and the latest chapter in his well chronicled story is in the throes of being written.
The International Human Powered Vehicle Association governs human powered challenges on the land, sea and air records. The current IHPVA land speed record is 82.819mph, a record held by Canadian Sam Whittingham. The IHPVA records are normally attempted upon fully faired, recumbent style bicycles. The vehicle design necessary to deliver the optimum aerodynamic benefit and reduce drag.
Graeme has his sights set on this record and has started the preparation to mount a serious challenge on this record and bring The IHPVA land speed record home to Scotland. The Flying Scotsman prepares to fly again might be the headlines as Graeme sets out on this unique adventure aboard his latest ‘homemade’ bike.”
Paul Calver has been working with Dennis Publishing for the launch of their new dedicated road cycling magazine, Cyclist Magazine.
